Nostr Rising — podcast series (bitcoin.review)
Hosts: NVK (bitcoin.review) + rotating guests from the Nostr core dev community. Status: publicly available podcast; transcripts not freely re-hostable. Episode list with summaries below; play directly from the linked URLs.
The series is the single best public conversation record of why design decisions in Nostr were made. When the synthesis cites "the literature," this is a meaningful chunk of it.

Themes that recur across the series
- Relays are not commodity infrastructure. They have policies, costs, and audiences. Treat them like services.
- The outbox/gossip model is a consequence of relay diversity, not a preference. If all relays were equivalent and uncensored, you wouldn't need it. They aren't, so you do.
- Per-domain routing. DMs ≠ public broadcast ≠ communities ≠ long-form ≠ podcast feeds. Each has its own routing pattern. Don't conflate.
- Permissionless algorithms. Anyone can publish a kind-30000-range filter/feed and let others subscribe to it. Algorithmic feeds become user-portable.
- Sustainability is a design concern. Funding for relays, NIPs, and core clients (Coracle, Damus, Amethyst) is part of why the protocol stays open.
How this informed the synthesis
Episode 03 (Relays & Scaling) and Episode 02 (Communities) are the most
load-bearing for design-synthesis.md §2 (per-kind routing) and the
"relays are services" framing.
